I’m going to say it. While I love Carrie’s shoes, I did not always love or get her style. I know that even saying that indicates that I must have no sense of style; she is after all a fashion icon. But I admit, I didn’t always get it. Sarah Jessica Parker is gorgeous and thin so she can look good in a potato sack. As a matter of fact, I believe she may have worn a potato sack with a perfect pin and Jimmy Choos in Season 3. I watched every episode and there were times when I simply felt bewilderment about what the hell she was wearing. Am I the only one?

Now with the movie everything is BIGGER than BIG! Check out the hat that SJP wore to the world premiere of the film in London. It even has its own butterfly… I mean butterflies. How romantic! Two butterflies floating around high above her head. Maybe they represent her and BIG?
Well in any case, we have the SATC style guide on the cheap. Yes there are ways to get that look without going broke. I’m sure I could find those butterflies at Michael’s or Joanne’s. I know. I know. I’m going to get some hate mail for that one.

Celebs are admitting it happened to them. Did it happen to you? If you are a new mom, are you feeling down? I suffered from depression through my second pregnancy and after her birth I experienced what Melissa and Dr. Bennett discuss in this video. I NEVER told a soul. I was ashamed and embarrassed beyond belief. It is so good to know that you’re not alone and that help is available. My PPD ended once I went back to work, started working out and taking care of myself. If you know of a mom that might be experiencing this, please share the video. Here is the link. But there is something a lot of pregnant women don’t know. Depression can happen during pregnancy. It is called antepartum depression and it is a mood disorder. Mood disorders are biological illnesses that involve changes in brain chemistry. During pregnancy hormone changes can affect brain chemicals, which is directly related to depression and anxiety. It is very real and affects 10-20% of all women. I wish I had known.

In today’s Dish we’re focusing on food. Kimberly Williams Paisley, of According to Jim and Father of the Bride, is now a mom and is involved in helping kids eat their veggies. Great work Kim! And for moms to be, good news! Eating dark chocolate 5 times a week can help prevent preclampsia.
But here is some not so good news! According to a report released by Self magazine and the University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill, 75% of women in the U.S. suffer from eating disorders. The results came from an online poll of more than 4,000 women between the ages of 25 and 45. They found that 31% of women who were trying to lose weight resorted to tactics such as purposely throwing up, using diet pills, laxatives, etc. They found that 67% of women who did not have eating disorders were trying to lose weight.
53% of these women were already at a healthy weight, but were still on a diet. Some women, 16%, ate less than 1,000 calories each day just to try to lose weight. This impacted both young women as well as adult women. How is this happening to us? Do you think this poll is accurate? We’re supposed to be helping our daughters grow up with a strong sense of self esteem and accepting of themselves. Why is it that when it comes to our own weight we revert to being adolescence? I admit that my relationship with food has not always been healthy. When I’m feeling down I crave junk food. If I’m really down, I drive to McDonalds. What is your relationship with food like? Do you diet even when you don’t need to? Have you ever purged or used some of the methods mentioned in the poll? We want to hear from you!
Until tomorrow!

Today on the show we’re looking at baby weight gain. Doctors recommend gaining 20-35 pounds. Pregnancy requires an additional 200-300 calories a day. Some studies show that excess weight can cause problems for mom and baby long after giving birth. But it’s not just how much but what moms eat that really counts. I had a really hard time with this. Prior to getting pregnant with my son, I was one of “those” women that only ate when she was hungry and didn’t care much for sweets. Once that little stick showed up with the double lines I became a sugar fiend. I craved Krispy Kreme donuts, tiramisu and cake… any kind of cake. And here is the really scary thing. It’s NEVER ended. I’ll give up all white refined breads and carbs but if there is a dessert near by, I swear I hear it calling my name.
But enough about my torment. If you are expecting a little indulgence is good for your emotional well being but don’t do it everyday. Your diet should be nutrient dense, that is full of good things for you and your baby. So at snack time reach for fresh fruit instead of a donut….at least most of the time. SheKnows Pregnancy has everything you need to know and a weight gain planner.
Lindsay Lohan’s 14 year old sister, Ali, has just signed on to star in a movie, Mostly Ghostly. I sigh. Ali says that she wants to do “everything” that Lindsay has done. Oh hon! Not everything! As a mom I want to give my children every opportunity to pursue their dreams. If one of them said they wanted to be an actor, I would be first person to get the lessons and support their desire. BUT watching so many young celebrity train wrecks just breaks my heart! Where is Lindsay and Ali’s mom, Dina? Oh that’s right. She is getting ready for her new reality show, Living Lohan. Have you ever noticed that celebrity parents e.g. Demi Moore or Goldie Hawn, kept their kids out of the spotlight while they were growing up? Yet parents of celebrity kids seem to not only push their kids out there but seem to be waving their hands as well. No judgment. Just noticing. Hmm…
